- Towards democracy
Local women`s organizations have become an important component in an emerging `civil society` in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the period since the end of hostilities in 1995. This book is a study of sevensuch small NGOs. It discusses their strengths and weaknesses, and the promies they may hold for a women`s movement in B-H. The authors argue that national and local authorities, intergovernmental agencies and international NGOs should support their survival and growth. Women actyvely organizing simultaneously for women`s rights and ethnic reintegration at local level are indispensable if democracy in Bosnia is to become genuinely inclusive, participatory – and non-patriarchal.
This book is based on a partnership between researchers in Medica Women`s Association and the City University London.
